Cruz says Penny should go after Bragg…
In an exclusive statement obtained by The Daily Caller, Texas Senator Ted Cruz called New York City DA Alvin Bragg a “catastrophe” and encouraged freshly acquitted Daniel Penny to sue him.
Bragg failed to convict Penny, a military vet, for criminally negligent homicide after Penny confronted and subdued Jordan Neely, a homeless man who was high on drugs and threatening passengers in a New York subway car in May 2023.
Neely had been arrested 42 times before his encounter with Penny.
“Alvin Bragg is an absolute catastrophe. First, he indicted Donald Trump in a partisan case, and then he indicted Daniel Penny for saving the lives of other subway passengers from a deranged lunatic threatening to kill everyone,” Cruz said in the statement. “Penny should sue Bragg for malicious prosecution and hold this rogue Soros prosecutor accountable.”
During Monday night’s Hannity monologue, Fox News host Sean Hannity shared a similar analysis:
“Now, the fact that this case was ever brought forward is a complete travesty of justice. … How is this person supposed to react when you have a crazed homeless person, with a history a mile long in terms of dealing with cops and authorities, in a subway car yelling that he’s going to kill himself and everybody else in that subway car?”
Many New York lawmakers are calling for Bragg to resign for going after Penny.
“Alvin Bragg has failed in his responsibilities to enforce the law and keep New Yorkers safe. Sadly, he has engaged in political prosecutions on numerous cases, including President Trump, Daniel Penny and Jose Alba,” Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) said in a statement Monday. “He should be removed from office immediately.”
Joining the calls was state Assemblyman Michael Tannousis (R-Staten Island), who charged that Bragg “wasted taxpayer dollars” by filing charges against Penny.
“Penny was wrongfully accused and slandered to better serve the DA’s skewed agenda. New Yorkers stood up against the unlawfulness and dishonesty,” the lawmaker said. “If only Alvin Bragg actually did his job and protected New Yorkers the city would be a lot safer than it is today.”
