In a nearby post I observe that the Obama/Biden foreign policy hands (including Obama and Biden themselves) make Neville Chamberlain look like a strategic genius. If viewed through a different lens, however, they look more like the British traitors known as the Cambridge Five. They served the other side — Soviet Union — during the Cold War. However, they did so covertly.
The Obama/Biden team are somewhat more open about it and they prefer to think of our enemies as potential friends. They refuse to take “Death to America” as the regime’s final answer. They think it’s negotiable. They seem to think the mullahs don’t really mean it.
Adam Kredo reports for the Free Beacon this morning that “Days After Trump’s Victory, Biden-Harris Admin Granted Iran $10 Billion in Sanctions Relief, Congressional Notice Shows.” Kredo explains (links omitted):
Secretary of State Antony Blinken determined on November 8 that “it is in the national security interest of the United States” to waive mandatory economic sanctions that bar Iraq from transferring upward of $10 billion to Iran in electricity import payments.
The Biden-Harris administration has renewed the waiver repeatedly over the objections of congressional Republicans, who warned that the cash helped fuel terrorism and Iran’s war against Israel. In one case, the administration signed off on the sanctions relief one month after Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel.
Kredo adds that the administration has previously argued “that Iran is only permitted to use the funds for humanitarian needs, including medicines and other supplies.” Yes, but even the developmentally disabled understand that money is fungible. The State Department declined to respond to Kredo’s request for further comment in this case. I believe the answer is that there is nothing to see here. It’s routine.
