Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the stand Tuesday during his corruption trial, arguing that he is being targeted for his security policies.
“I have been waiting for eight years for this moment to tell the truth,” he said in front of the court, according to CNN. “But I am also a prime minister … I am leading the country through a seven-front war. And I think the two can be done in parallel.”
The judges ruled that Netanyahu has to testify three times a week following the International Criminal Court issuing an arrest warrant for him.
He is being accused by prosecutors of giving regulatory favors to Bezeq Telecom Israel in exchange for favorable news coverage of him.
Netanyahu has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.
His lawyer has stated that the prosecutors weren’t “investigating a crime, they were going after a person.”
