The singer and songwriter of Y.M.C.A., the Village People hit that became a signature part of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, has said he would “seriously consider” performing the song at the President-elect’s request.

Victor Willis recently issued a statement via Facebook on Trump’s usage of the song, becoming somewhat of a fan of the Republican after initially asking him to cease using it as campaign rallies. The 1978 track skyrocketed to #1 following the presidential election, with Willis noting its commercial success in recent weeks.

In an interview with Fox and Friends, Willis – who voiced support for Vice President Kamala Harris during the campaign – did not endorse Trump, and initially replied, “Probably not,” when asked if he would perform at Trump’s inauguration because it could be viewed as an endorsement.

But he did give one condition in which he would be willing to perform there; if Trump personally requested it.

WILLIS: If you were to ask me today if the Village People would perform at the inauguration, I would probably say not because we’d be concerned about endorsement.

However, because the president-elect has done so much for YMCA and brought so much joy to so many people, the song has actually gone back to No. 1, and it’s still No. 1 today, so if he were to ask the Village People to perform the song live for him, we’d have to seriously consider it.

Many on social media believed the performance would be one for the ages.

Others were optimistic about the prospect of a performance on Jan. 20.
