Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., said Sunday that the military will only be used as a last resort when conducting mass deportations of people who came into the country illegally, which President-elect Donald Trump pledged to carry out if elected.
During an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Donalds said that Trump will start with people who have committed additional crimes.
“When you’re talking about military assets being used, that’s only an extreme last resort,” Donalds said, according to The Hill.
“There are more than 6,000 officers … who have dedicated their lives to having to remove illegal aliens from our country, people who already have a legal deportation order but they haven’t – it hasn’t been effectuated by Joe Biden,” he continued.
He added that if the military were to be used, it would be used for logistical purposes.
“What Donald Trump is going to do…….we’re going to repatriate those people using those personnel at ICE and other parts of the Department of Homeland Security to remove them,” Donalds said, referencing illegal immigrants.
Among Trump’s campaign promises are plans to carry out mass deportations, secure the border and get illegal immigration under control.
