CNN’s Scott Jennings has some advice for Pete Hegseth, who is the most recent victim of the smear machine’s battle against President-elect Donald Trump.

Since being nominated to a cabinet position by Trump, Hegseth has faced all kinds of mudslinging, smears, and attempts to malign his character. So much so, that some are drawing parallels between his treatment, and the treatment of Trump’s Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh.

Jennings took note of this during a CNN panel, dishing out some salient advice for moving forward.

“To a lot of Republicans right now, some of this is starting to feel like the Kavanaugh confirmation hearing,” he noted. “We have a lot of anonymous, a lot of innuendo, a lot of people using words like ‘voluminous.’ And people sort of piling on here without substantive, on-the-record stuff to back it up.”

“So what I would recommend is that he continue to fight for his own reputation, if we get to a hearing then we put everybody under oath and then we see where the chips fall,” he continued. “He’s got two fights. One is reputational and one is also can you do the job?”
