Democrat Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman said that he believes President-elect Donald Trump should be pardoned of the 34 felony charges that he was convicted of in New York.

The liberal politician discussed the matter on The View on Thursday and admitted that the case against Trump was politically motivated.

Trump was convicted of falsifying business records in New York and was originally scheduled to be sentenced in November. The judge indefinitely delayed the sentencing to give him time to argue for the conviction to be overturned.

Speaking to The View host Joy Behar, Fetterman said, “I think that it’s undeniable that the case against Hunter Biden was really politically motivated but I also think it’s true that the trial in New York for Trump was political as well, too.”

“In both cases I think a pardon is appropriate and I really think collectively that America’s confidence in these types of institutions have been damaged by these kinds of cases, and we cannot allow these types of institutions to be weaponized against our political opponents,” Fetterman continued.

Earlier this week, Joe Biden pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, of three charges relating to a 2018 gun purchase plus any crime he may have committed in the last decade.

In a statement about the pardon, Biden claimed that the prosecution had been politically motivated.

“No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son — and that is wrong,” Biden claimed.
