President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, visited Israel and Qatar to discuss reaching a ceasefire and hostage agreement in Gaza, according to a U.S. official cited in a report from the Associated Press on Thursday.
Witkoff met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Qatar Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the report said, noting that the U.S. official spoke on condition of anonymity when confirming the meetings.
The report said the official said the parties involved have made progress toward a ceasefire agreement but there aren’t any plans for Biden senior adviser Brett McGurk to return to the Middle East before the Trump administration begins.
