It seems every day now we’re greeted with another man in women’s spaces, so don’t act too surprised when I show you who made BBC’s list of 100 inspiring and influential “women” in 2024.

I’m going to start putting “women” in quotation marks from now on so people know I’m not actually talking about women.

So yeah, Brigitte Baptiste of Columbia — a transwoman biologist.

Reaching peak levels of Clown World here!

Here’s Brigette’s featured photo on the BBC’s website:

At least they didn’t use the photo from above!

Here’s what the BBC has to say about Brigitte:

As a transwoman biologist, Brigitte Baptiste explores the common patterns between biodiversity and gender identity.

She uses a queer lens to analyse landscapes and species in a bid to expand the notion of ‘nature’ to better protect ecosystems. In her 2018 TEDx talk, she used the Quindío wax palm, Colombia’s national tree, as an example of how ‘the change of sex and gender has been regularly reported by science’ across the lifetime of species.

Yup, trees are transgender now!

I checked the rest of the list, and all of the other “women” passed the smell test. However, I’m not sure if this “woman” should be on the list either:

I mean, I know that’s a woman, but is it really a “woman”?

So hard to tell these days, but she does use she/her pronouns for the time being, so we’ll go with woman.

Okay, that’s all I got. There’s just no surprise factor anymore when men like Brigitte Baptiste make lists which are designated for women.
