It was the end of an era when Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) delivered his farewell address from the floor of the Senate, a speech oozing with sanctimony and he just couldn’t resist taking what seemed to be a gratuitous shot at President-elect Donald J. Trump.
On Wednesday, the retiring 77-year-old said goodbye after spending one term in Washington, D.C. where he embarked upon a mission to undermine Trump, a man with who he had a strange obsession and may have been jealous of after his own failed presidential run.
Throughout my 25 years of public service, I have learned that politics alone cannot measure up to the challenges we face. A country’s character is a reflection not just of its elected officials but also of its people. May we each be a voice of unity and virtue. pic.twitter.com/bOWTdmTqff

“There are some today who would tear at our unity, who would replace love with hate, who would deride our foundation of virtue or who debase the values on which the blessings of heaven depend,” Romney said in what could be interpreted as a jab at Trump.
“Mitt Romney’s repeated success in public office is a testament to his transcendent appeal of his character,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in his own speech praising his outgoing colleague’s “long and honorable career on the national political stage’.”
For all of his efforts, the will of the people prevailed over lawfare and other dirty pool and Trump is returning to the White House just as “Pierre Delecto” is on his way out of town.
While he will be missed by Democrats and a media that gushed over him for his crusade against Trump, X users are glad to see the glutton for attention exiting the political stage, and may the door not hit him in the a** on the way out.
Good riddance, Mitt. You’ve spent your time in the Senate undermining the very people who put you there. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, and don’t expect any gratitude from real conservatives.

Blah blah blah. Quit aggrandizing yourself.

Public service? Hardly. You did not work for the everyday American, you elite globalist.

Good riddance traitor

Romney will forever be remembered for joining up with Democrats on both of the failed impeachments against Trump, a manifestation of the vendetta against the soon-to-be 47th president that erupted during the 2016 GOP primaries when the political outsider dispensed with Jeb Bush and the entire field while Mitt played armchair quarterback from the sidelines, not having the guts to get into the game himself.
Trump once pegged Romney as a “pompous ass” and his self-aggrandizing goodbye speech shows that the label fits.
