On Sunday, Aaron Rodgers led the New York Jets to yet another heartbreaking loss, this time to the Seattle Seahawks.

The Jets were up 21-7 in the second quarter of the game. However, the team didn’t score in the second half and allowed the Seahawks to catch up. The Seahawks ultimately won the game by a score of 26-21 after scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter.

While he threw two touchdowns, Rodgers’ stats were pedestrian at best, completing just 21 of 39 for 185 yards. The backbreaker though, was a pick-six – to a lineman, for 92 yards – in the second. After that, the game was all Seahawks.

Rodgers Ripped For His ‘Smugness’

The former Super Bowl champion Willie Colon, who played for the Jets from 2013-2015, really gave Rodgers the business after the game.

“That’s who Aaron Rodgers is. That’s who he has always been,” Colon said. “He’s just covered that up because of the way he has played. You can be smug and cocky when you are winning MVPs, and you’re balling. You can make every play on the field, you can be smug. The problem is his smugness and his play aren’t matching up.”

Indeed, on the season, Rodgers has completed just 62% of his passes for 2,627 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight picks. These are not the Rodgers numbers of yesteryear.

“The issue moving forward is that if you are a Jets’ fan, you’re damn right you have to be upset. All of us have sat through the Zach Wilson era,” he continued. And we were told by Joe Douglas and his regime that once we get Aaron Rodgers, the bad times are behind us. They’re not. If anything, this is an ultra reset.”

“So yeah, if you are a Jets fan, you have to be damn pissed off at Aaron Rodgers because when we give you the ball, the Aaron Rodgers, in game-winning situations, this is Kobe (Bryant),” Colon added. “This should be an easy W for us. And our defense isn’t horrible.”

Colon Doubles Down

Colon, who is a Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers, went on to also slam the decision-making. In making this argument, Colon cited the Jets going 1-5 after firing Robert Saleh. He also claimed that the Jets didn’t do much to inspire fans with the offense, despite trading for Davante Adams.

“… I’m looking at a quarterback who will be wearing a gold jacket one day,” Colon stated. “And he’s the worst in the NFL. If you are a Jets fan, burn the whole damn thing up. Burn the whole building up, nothing makes sense. Everything is worse than it was before.”

Rodgers Defends Himself

After Sunday’s game, Rodgers said that the loss came down to execution.

“Plays at the end of the second quarter cost us this game,” Rodgers admitted. “Then comes the fourth quarter — it’s execution, it’s strain, it’s the little things, it’s accuracy. And we just have a lot to go around, myself included, first and foremost.”

“There’s 11 guys on the field,” Rodgers also said. “Sometimes it’s my fault, and then sometimes the details aren’t there in some other spots too.”

Social media users were quick to slam Rodgers for these comments.

“You’d think a Hall of Fame quarterback would know how to take ownership of a loss and just leadership for a team. Instead he’ll deflect blame onto other people,” one social media user commented. Another added, “This guy is a grade-A piece of [expletive]. If you’re on the Jets, how can you take the field with him?”

Only time will tell if Rodgers and the Jets are able to turn this season around.
