U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley put President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice and the FBI “on  notice” with a warning that “Accountability is coming.”

The Missouri Republican issued a scathing warning letter to FBI Director Chris Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland, revealing that he’s heard reports of federal employees “destroying records” in an “effort to conceal the widespread misconduct” that allegedly occurred under the Biden administration.

“Don’t shred a single document. Don’t delete a single file,” Hawley wrote in a post on X accompanying a copy of the letter.

Hawley accused the FBI and DOJ of having “engaged in unprecedented abuses of the justice system.” He cited examples such as the criminal prosecution of President-elect Donald Trump and “bad-faith prosecutions of pro-life Americans” as well as the attempt to “recruit undercover informants in Catholic parishes.”

The senator, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, blasted the “sordid track record” and called on the DOJ and FBI to “terminate any employees involved” and retain documents “in anticipation of congressional investigations to come.”

Hawley’s letter comes after Trump announced his choice of Kash Patel to lead the FBI, writing in part, “Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People.”

Hawley noted the impending changes coming to Washington with Trump’s return to the White House.

“With sunlight now on the horizon, I’m not surprised by last-ditch efforts to stonewall the incoming administration. But those efforts will fail,” Hawley predicted in his letter to Garland and Wray.

He vowed to investigate the “illicit actions” in their respective agencies over the last few years and vowed that any attempts to destroy relevant documentation would be exposed along with those responsible for ordering the actions.

In concluding with his “bottom line,” the GOP lawmaker said the DOJ and FBI “should prepare for the real justice to come.”

Though many social media users welcomed the call to accountability, some noted being burned before and criticized Republicans for talking the talk but not walking the walk.

However, others on X held out hope that things could be different, praising Hawley’s attempt to set the tone.
