The decision by failed Democratic replacement nominee Kamala Harris to name Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate clearly had lasting effects on the outcome of the race as his impact waned in the closing days.

Perhaps, the greatest effect is that the addition of Walz spurred popular podcast host Joe Rogan to get involved in the presidential race — President-elect Trump’s appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience is widely seen as a difference maker in the race, especially so since Kamala Harris was unable to take up Rogan’s offer for a sit-down. In the end, Rogan would also endorse Trump.

Rogan explained on a recent episode of his podcast that the dishonesty he saw from Walz was what motivated him to get more involved — among the whoppers told by the Democratic political was that he served in Afghanistan as a member of the Minnesota National Guard when he did not and that he retired as a Command Sergeant Major when that was also not true.

“I wanted to stay out of the presidential election shit because it’s so gross,” Rogan said.

“I feel like I had to. This is so nuts. When that Tim Walz guy — it’s so nuts that guy was going to be the vice president,” he continued. “You’re telling me this whole thing is fake then. You’re telling me that you don’t care if someone is a liar? You don’t care if they lie about their military rank, where they served, you don’t care if they lie about being an assistant, you don’t care if they lie about Tiananmen Square?”

“There are just too many things,” Rogan insisted. “This is so crazy. You would get fired if you were an assistant manager at a fucking oil change company. Jiffy Lube would fire you!”

Walz took considerable heat from veterans for what was deemed “stolen valor” when he claimed he carried a rifle “in war,” even though he did not serve in combat, retiring before his unit was deployed.

“I’ve been voting for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment, but we can do background checks. We can research the impacts of gun violence. We can make sure those weapons of war, that I carried in war, are only carried in war,” he said on the campaign trail.
