President-elect Trump announced in a Truth Social post that he will travel to Paris this weekend to attend the re-opening of the Notre Dame Cathedral, marking his first overseas trip since being elected president for a second term.
The visit comes five years after a devastating fire gutted the 12th-century structure, with Trump praising French President Emmanuel Macron for overseeing the restoration effort, which raised nearly $1 billion.
“It is an honor to announce that I will be traveling to Paris, France, on Saturday to attend the re-opening of the Magnificent and Historic Notre Dame Cathedral, which has been fully restored after a devastating fire five years ago,” Trump posted.
“President Emmanuel Macron has done a wonderful job ensuring that Notre Dame has been restored to its full level of glory, and even more so,” he added. “It will be a very special day for all!”

Macron was among the first foreign leaders to congratulate Trump on his election victory, posting on X: “Congratulations, President @realDonaldTrump. Ready to work together as we did for four years. With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.”
The two leaders have reportedly spoken by phone since the November election.
Around 50 heads of state are expected at the invite-only ceremonies on Saturday and Sunday, according to Fox News, which cited sources to report Trump’s aides “were in talks with French President Macron’s office regarding the visit.”
Meanwhile, CNN whined that the invite “shows power fast flowing from [President] Biden to Trump.”
“Putting Trump at the center of the star-studded VIP event, which will mark his big return to the global stage, says everything about the power fast flowing back to the president-elect six weeks before he begins his second term,” the network reported, before taking petty journalism to another level.
“The announcement of Trump’s trip to Paris came as Biden landed in Angola for an official presidential visit that is sure to include far more substance than Trump’s journey,” CNN added. “The president seeks to highlight US commitment to sub-Saharan Africa in the face of China’s investment-led regional power play. Trump never made it to Africa as president and seemed more interested in insulting the continent than helping it.”
