President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team on Tuesday announced it reached a new phase of the process with the Justice Department (DOJ), by entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Trump’s team previously entered into an MOU with the current White House last month, after the former president completed his selecting his presidential Cabinet. 

The new memorandum allows Trump’s team to submit background checks and security clearances for his appointees and Cabinet nominees, according to incoming White House chief of staff Susie Wiles. 

“This agreement with the Department of Justice will ensure President Trump and his team are ready on Day 1 to begin enacting the America First Agenda that an overwhelming majority of our nation supported on Election Day,” Wiles said in a statement.

Trump is expected to be sworn into office on Jan. 20, 2025.
