Trump says new Mexican president “agreed to stop migration through Mexico” … but she begs to differ

President-elect Donald Trump is not even in office yet and already he is solving the border crisis.

Trump announced this past week that he plans to impose a 25 percent import duty on all Mexican goods in the event America’s neighbor to the south fails to stop the flow of drugs and migrants across the border.

Just uttering these words put the fear of God into newly elected Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who announced following Trump’s tariffs commentary that she will do everything she can to stop migration through Mexico.

On his Truth Social network, Trump announced that he had a “wonderful” conversation with Sheinbaum in which she “agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border.”

“We also talked about what can be done to stop the massive drug inflow into the United States, and also, U.S. consumption of these drugs. It was a very productive conversation!”

AP sides with Mexico, not Trump, over tariffs riff

Similar to what he tried to do in 2016 with all his talk about building a border wall and having Mexico pay for it, Trump is once again challenging the illegal immigration problem head-on by pointing the finger at Mexico for allowing it to happen.

Simply mentioning the word “tariff” was enough to get Mexico motivated even before Trump gets installed to take the illegal immigration problem seriously unless it wants to pay the price economically once Trump takes office again.

Sheinbaum has not yet confirmed the nature of her conversation with Trump, so we only have Trump’s word to go on so far. One would imagine, though, that Trump is telling the truth because if he is not, it will become very obvious very soon should the migrant problem continue unabated.

The sad truth is that the mainstream press, led by The Associated Press (AP), is rooting against Trump and for Sheinbaum and Mexico. The AP is already suggesting that “Mexico could retaliate with tariffs of its own” instead of agreeing with Trump that Mexico needs to do more to stop the endless inflow of illegals into America.

“One tariff would be followed by another in response, and so on until we put at risk common businesses,” Sheinbaum supposedly said about tariffs.

Mexico, according to Sheinbaum, has already done a lot to try to stop the migrant problem. At the same time, Mexico’s handling of the fentanyl crisis has waned over the past year, resulting in more of the deadly synthetic opioid getting smuggled in to the U.S.

“Caravans of migrants no longer reach the border,” she reportedly said.

Sheinbaum says that Mexico is dealing with an influx of problems from the U.S. as well. Weapons, she says, are flooding into Mexico from the U.S. As for the drugs flowing from Mexico into the U.S., Sheinbaum added that this “is a problem of public health and consumption in your country’s society.”

Trump’s initial comments about dealing with Mexico through tariffs sent the value of the peso plummeting. Then, after Sheinbaum responded to him by threatening tariffs of her own, the peso price surged.

Conversely, the value of the U.S. dollar increased after Trump mentioned imposing tariffs on Mexico. Then, after Sheinbaum countered Trump’s words, the value of the U.S. dollar dropped right back down almost to where it started.

“Why does Mexico even let them into their country if not to let them pass through the north?” a commenter asked. “Why is it so easy to even walk into Mexico through the south?”
