The popular feminist website Betches has urged people to skip Thanksgiving dinner with relatives who support President-elect Donald Trump.
Betches boasts of having a reach of 250 million people across their social media platforms.
On the website, Betches is described as creating “content that empowers women to say WTF is actually on their minds. We’ve cultivated a loyal audience who comes to us for witty commentary, sage advice, and brutal honesty. We’re the drunk BFF you meet in a dive bar bathroom who will fix your hair, hype you up, and make sure you never text your shitty ex.”
On Thanksgiving Eve, the website published an op-ed titled “You Don’t Need To Make Nice With Your Trump-Supporting Family Members.”
“It has been a long, bruising, and terrible election season, and with Thanksgiving and the winter holidays right behind it, there is a temptation to set it all aside and find ways to reach commonalities with our families and loved ones. There will be guides to avoid conflict, minimize difficult discussions, and embrace each other across political divides and cranberry sauce,” the article begins. “This is not one of them.”
The feminist author continued, “It is frankly absurd to pretend that we can set that aside after a campaign that so clearly marked some of us for oppression and left the rest gloating over the pain they will inflict. Trump supporters have voted for owning the libs, stewing in our misery, and treating us as inferiors — the very same ingredients for conflict that they say they want us to overlook. They have asked for our suffering; we do not owe them our forgiveness.”
The author claimed that families are not about genetics, or who loved and raised you, but who you decide to claim as “family.”
The article concluded:
This Thanksgiving, we all deserve a positive peace. We deserve to break bread with families made from love and acceptance, not the silenced discord of fundamental disagreement. It does not matter who we are born to, who we grew up with, who shares our genetics. Families are not about who claims us, but who we claim in return. This holiday, don’t ditch the politics for a meal; have a meal that reflects your politics. We will have justice at our tables, or we will eat off of our laps with people that cherish us as the equals we are.
Don’t accept anything less.
Meanwhile, President-elect Trump wished a Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, including “the Radical Left Lunatics who have worked so hard to destroy our Country, but who have miserably failed, and will always fail.”
Trump posted the statement to Truth Social on Thanksgiving Eve.
Trump wrote:
Happy Thanksgiving to all, including to the Radical Left Lunatics who have worked so hard to destroy our Country, but who have miserably failed, and will always fail, because their ideas and policies are so hopelessly bad that the great people of our Nation just gave a landslide victory to those who want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
The president-elect added, “Don’t worry, our Country will soon be respected, productive, fair, and strong, and you will be, more than ever before, proud to be an American!”
