With no points being given for taste, Juan Williams endorses Liz Cheney for 2024’s “Politician of the Year” due to her “heroic sacrifice.”

If you can call joining the popular leftist crusade against President-elect Donald Trump “heroic,” that is. Siding with the same people who have called her and her father, Dick Cheney, warmongers for the last two decades, Liz has cemented her legacy as a darling of Democrats because she was willing to parrot their rhetoric, no questions asked.

Juan Williams celebrated her in this year’s “Politician of the Year” op-ed for The Hill, where he explained his reasoning for such a controversial pick.

“This year, President-Elect Donald Trump is obviously a front-runner for Politician of the Year as the winner of the presidential election. Trump is back at the top of political power despite two impeachments, a massive civil fraud verdict, 34 felony convictions, three other indictments, and a verdict that he is liable for a sexual assault. But the impact of his second win is yet to be known,” William wrote.

“The impact of this year’s winner is known due to her heroic sacrifice, already the stuff of political legend,” he continued. “This year’s prize goes to Liz Cheney. The former congresswoman soared sky-high above politics-as-usual in Washington by taking a principled stand that cost her power, friends, and the money that comes with status in the capital.”

Then he goes as far as to compare Cheney to Joan-of-Arc, depicting her as a brave, principled politician willing to withstand attacks from the “rich and powerful” to live up to her beliefs.

“Like a living Joan-of-Arc, she defiantly rejected orders from the rich and powerful to close her eyes to all wrongdoing and get in line up behind Trump,” he said.

“Trump responded to her with what some saw as a threat, under the guise of attacking her for supporting past wars, by musing what would happen if Cheney were sent into battle herself and had ‘nine barrels shooting at her,’” Williams added, invoking the already-debunked claim that Trump was threatening harm on the warhawk. In fact, Trump was simply stating that if Cheney had to go into battle the way she and her family have sent America’s young men to war, she might have a different perspective on such dramatic action.

Williams had a wildly different, almost fawning interpretation.

“The violent image spoke to the bravery displayed by Cheney — her figurative strength under fire. A principled conservative, a genuine Republican die-hard, her rebukes cut deeply into Trump’s psyche.”

In 2023, Williams gave Matt Gaetz the “Politician of the Year” honor, but it wasn’t exactly a positive thing:

Gaetz deserves a place in history. He is a living monument to an era of elected Republican officials with no interest in governing.

But Gaetz takes the prize, for successfully paralyzing the House for the entire year.

With his hands on the wheel and driving toward revenge and chaos — all to raise his personal profile and stir up small, online donations — Gaetz crashed the House of Representatives in a ditch on a low road.
