Georgia GOP Attorney General Chris Carr has officially launched his bid to run for governor for 2026.

“As a proven conservative, building on the legacy of Brian Kemp, Nathan Deal and Sonny Perdue, I’m running to create jobs for hardworking Georgians, keep our families and our neighborhoods safe, and vigorously defend our constitution and our freedoms,” Carr wrote Thursday on the social media platform, X.

Potential opponents Carr may face in the primary include Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, according to The Hill.

“Together, we will fight to keep Georgia red,” Carr said.

Some issues on Carr’s campaign website include being tough on crime and fighting the opioid crisis.

“Chris Carr has declared war on fentanyl,” the site states. “As Attorney General, his office has seized enough fentanyl from criminals to kill 3.5 million people. Chris believes those who take the lives of Georgians by selling and distributing this deadly poison should be charged with murder.”
