President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday night nominated former U.S. ambassador and former Michigan Rep. Pete Hoekstra for ambassador to Canada in his second administration.
Hoekstra previously served as Trump’s ambassador to the Netherlands during his first term, from 2018-2021. He also represented Michigan in the House from 1993 to 2011. He currently serves as chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, according to Politico.
“In my Second Term, Pete will once again help me put AMERICA FIRST,” Trump said in a statement on Truth Social. “He did an outstanding job as United States Ambassador to the Netherlands during our first four years, and I am confident that he will continue to represent our Country well in this new role.”
The former ambassador thanked Trump for the nomination in a post on social media, and said he was “honored for the opportunity to serve.”
