A suspect is in custody after two people were killed and one other was critically wounded in a New York City knife attack.

“Unprovoked attacks that left us searching for answers on how something like this could happen,” Mayor Eric Adams said on Monday at a news conference.

The suspect, 51, was reportedly homeless. He was found with blood on his clothes and two kitchen knives in his possession.

Adams said the suspect was previously sentenced in a criminal case but not elaborate.

The names of the victims were not immediately released.
