In celebrating a key nomination from the president-elect’s “amazing team,” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) also addressed the “enormous courage” needed for a “complete overhaul.”
Though their premises remained unfounded, leftists melting down over President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks were valid concerning the threat posed to the status quo. From the proposed Department of Government Efficiency to naming Tom Homan border czar, the slew of selections had a standout for Gingrich in Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense.
During a conversation with billionaire WABC 770 host John Catsimatidis on his show “The Cats Roundtable,” the former speaker spoke about what the Minnesota Army National Guard major would be up against following a successful confirmation.
“It’s going to take enormous courage and resilience on the part of Pete Hegseth to survive over there because the whole old order is gonna try to destroy him,” the GOP statesman asserted. “I’ve been actively involved in thinking about and working on defense for an extraordinarily long time. And I can tell you, the building needs a very complete overhaul.”
Addressing the broader concerns at the Department of Defense, which had just flubbed its audit for the seventh consecutive year, Gingrich said, “I had one senior person in the military who retired, who was working with Trump, who said he would recommend the president have every three and four-star general retire.”
“And then go down to two stars to pick a whole new generation of leaders because he thinks between Obama and Biden, the whole system has just been undermined and corrupted,” he went on.
While Trump was reportedly preparing an executive order for external review of military leaders that could see some dismissed, it had also been detailed that the president-elect’s “transition team is looking at the possibility of recalling several commanders to active duty for possible charges,” specifically related to the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, per a report from NBC News.
In his book, “The War on Warriors,” Hegseth proposed, “The next president of the United States needs to radically overhaul Pentagon senior leadership to make us ready to defend our nation and defeat our enemies. Lots of people need to be fired. The debacle in Afghanistan, of course, is the most glaring example.”

Along with celebrating the nomination of the Ivy League-educated Fox News host, Gingrich also lauded the nominations of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee as U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, and former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence as part of the “amazing team” being assembled in the executive branch.
He further commended newly-minted Senate Leader John Thune of South Dakota, set to run the Republican majority in the upper chamber in January, as well as House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana, as both have vowed to advance Trump’s agenda in the 119th Congress.
Gingrich also presented a means for the GOP to broaden their reach as he suggested to Catsimatidis, “I think one of Trump’s commitments ought to be to try to turn the cities red so that they actually have jobs, have safety and have decent, honest government. Now, that’s a pretty good project.”
