Even before President-elect Donald Trump had officially nominated the senior lawmaker from the Sunshine State to be his Secretary of State, early reports of the decision had triggered buzz over who would fill those legislative shoes. Saturday, the Republican National Committee co-chair joined “Fox & Friends Weekend” where argued her family had done “crazier things.”
Before the end of the interview, co-host Will Cain prompted, “Do you want to go be a disruptor in the Senate?”
“Well, you know, there have been crazier things the Trumps have done in the past, that’s for sure,” she said of her father-in-law’s family. “Look, I was so honored to be co-chair of RNC during this time, this really historic election.”
“I think that, you know, what we did at the RNC was part of the big win Donald Trump had and if I am tapped to serve in another capacity, it truly would be my honor,” she continued, echoing the sentiment she’d made as part of a media circuit.
“I think it would be great to have another young mom alongside [Alabama Sen.] Katie Britt there in the United States Senate,” said the 42-year-old. “I have not been asked yet, but I certainly would strongly consider it if it is presented to me.”
Prior to the president-elect’s official announcement, his daughter-in-law’s name had begun being circulated alongside some fan favorites like rapper Pitbull, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds and even former professional wrestler Hulk Hogan.
Despite the push from influencers and politicians alike, as Britt and Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R) had both called for Trump’s appointment, the decision remained up to Florida Sen. Ron DeSantis.
While Luna had said, “@LaraLeaTrump needs to be the nominated replacement by @GovDeSantis for Rubio. She will keep the seat and avoid a messy primary for FLORIDA. Well spoken. Kicked butt on election integrity. Etc.” the consummate conservative statesman had remained relatively mum on the subject.

In the midst of a trade mission throughout Italy, establishing new commercial partnerships between his state and the European country, the governor addressed the bevy of nominations out of Florida with greater focus on now-former Rep. Gaetz and Waltz who would require special elections to fill their seats and maintain Republicans slim majority in the House.
“Congratulations to the Floridians being appointed to key positions in the Trump Administration: Senator Marco Rubio, Congressman Matt Gaetz, and Congressman Mike Waltz,” DeSantis had posted to X on Thursday. “I’ve instructed Secretary of State Cord Byrd to formulate and announce a schedule for the upcoming special elections immediately.”

While Trump had also picked up support from Florida Sen. Rick Scott (R), who’d failed to succeed in winning a secret ballot to be Senate Leader, as well as South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) who’d told Fox News host Sean Hannity the GOP “could not do better…than Lara Trump,” reports had suggested that DeSantis would likely consider his chief of staff James Uthmeier, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody or even his Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez.
