His [Donald Trump’s] first term was undermined by Obama allies in U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies, and there’s evidence that the heart of the resistance is now ensconced inside the Pentagon and already poised to fight him.

That was the intrepid Lee Smith in “Obama’s Not Going Anywhere” on Tablet. As Robert Spencer notes at Frontpage, the evidence is already appearing. A plea-bargain deal for 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and two alleged accomplices is back on the table after Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin canceled it in early August, doubtless fearing the possible effect on the presidential campaign. The 9/11 attack killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. The plea deal, which takes the death penalty off the table, could be due to Obama’s lingering clout. It also recalls an episode from his time as commander-in-chief.

In 2014, the president traded deserter Bowe Bergdahl for Abdul Haq Wasiq, Norullah Noori, Mohammad Fazi, Khairullah Khairkhwa, and Mohammad Nabi Omari. The so-called “Gitmo Five” were all experienced jihadists and key players in Taliban military and intelligence operations. It was though Obama had traded Private Eddie Slovik for the Nazi high command. The president also had no problem with open jihadists serving in the U.S. military.

“Soldier of Allah” Maj. Nidal Hasan was communicating with al Qaeda terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki about killing Americans. The FBI knew it but looked the other way. On November 5, 2009 at Fort Hood, Hasan shot dead 13 Americans, including Pvt Francheska Velez who was pregnant. For Obama it was “workplace violence,” not even gun violence. Sgt. Alonzo Lunsford took seven bullets from Hasan, but in 2014 the president declined to meet with him.

As Lee Smith notes, “Obama never hid his role as the real center of power during Joe Biden’s term.” Obama’s continued influence in the Pentagon:

It threatens not only the Trump presidency but also the stability of the country. After fulfilling campaign promises to close the borders, embark on a massive deportation program sending millions of illegal aliens home, and appoint an attorney general capable of restoring the rule of law, the president-elect’s top priority must be to bring an end to the Obama era.
