Whoopi Goldberg the the brain trust over at “The View” have been making headlines since the election, largely for their ever-increasing meltdowns over the looming Donald Trump presidency she predicted would never happen.
Take the case of Whoopi Goldberg, for example. On Thursday, Nov. 14, Goldberg announced a “sex strike” amid frustration over Trump’s support among men. It was a bizarre “protest” that left everyone wondering if it would actually result in any changes to her daily life.
And that’s not all.
Celebrating her 69th birthday on The View, Goldberg said she had been refused service by a bakery in a Republican-leaning part of New York. While she didn’t name the bakery, Entertainment Weekly reported Holtermann’s Bakery which was the center of attention.
“My birthday dessert today was one of my mum’s favorites from when she was a kid, she talked about these all the time, they’re called Charlotte Russe,” Goldberg said on The View. “t’s a sponge cake with whipped cream and a cherry on top. I should tell you…the place that made these refused to make them for me.”
A confused panel responded “What?!”, before Goldberg elaborated, “No, let me explain. They said that their ovens had gone down, but folks went and got them anyway, which is why I’m not telling you who made them. It’s not… because I’m a woman, but perhaps they did not like my politics.”
Owner Jill Holtermann responded that politics had nothing to do with it, and that there had been an issue with the boiler in the bakery, which is situated in a century-old building.
Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella defended Holtermann: “It’s been here 145 years. They had a boiler that was 60 or 70 years old. And the first week in November, guess what? It went on the fritz.”
Holtermann herself thanked the community for the “overwhelming” support, adding that she had received calls from across the country.
Some on social media called for the bakery to initiate legal proceedings against the daytime television host.
Others were pleased to see Goldberg receive a public backlash.
There were also calls for her to apologize.
