Jim Jordan explains what’s going on, says Ethics Committee Report on Matt

A House of Representatives ethics report on former Rep. Matt Gaetz is set to be released but Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan thinks it “shouldn’t go public.”

Gaetz resigned from Congress and was nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as attorney general this week just days before a House Ethics Committee report on its investigation of the Florida Republican on allegations that include sexual misconduct and illicit drug use.

The Justice Department has not charged Gaetz with any crime and the former lawmaker has denied all the allegations. Some lawmakers are pressing for the release of the committee’s findings which was reportedly imminent, but, “Such a move would be highly unusual, since the committee has no jurisdiction to investigate a former lawmaker, and does not typically release information on investigations after members depart the House,” The Hill reported.

“Do you have any sense about what will happen with that House ethics report that was supposed to come out Friday?” Fox News host Laura Ingraham asked Jordan on “The Ingraham Angle” Thursday.

“Well, it’s my understanding that it’s not supposed to go public. So if it’s not supposed to under the rules, it shouldn’t go public,” the Ohio Republican replied.

Jordan praised Gaetz as “one of the best members we had on our committee.”

“There are very few people who have the cross-examination skills he does, and I want someone in the Justice Department who’s not going to say moms and dads in school board meetings need to be investigated. I want someone in the Justice Department who’s going to say it’s wrong for the FBI to do a memorandum and say that pro-life Catholics are extremists,” he told Ingraham.

“I want someone at the Justice Department who can tell us who planted the pipe bombs on January 6, who leaked the Dobbs opinion, who put cocaine at the White House instead of all the other stuff they seem to be focused on,” Jordan continued.

“Is it your belief tonight he will be confirmed as the next attorney general?” Ingraham asked the lawmaker.

“Well, that’s up to the Senate,” Jordan replied.

“What I know is what — how Matt — the effective member he was on our committee. I know he is committed to freedom just like Tulsi Gabbard, just like RFK Jr.. Just like all the other people President Trump is putting up” he added. “And I have total confidence in President Trump and the people he is selecting for these key positions.”

“Well, it sounded like John Thune was going to play ball. That’s kind of what I read between the lines earlier tonight,” Ingraham noted of the South Dakota senator who was elected as GOP leader. “But we shall see.”

President-elect Trump announced Gaetz as his pick for AG on Wednesday after a flurry of other nominations.

“Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William & Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice,” Trump wrote. “Matt will end Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans’ badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department.”
