New York “Squad” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got an earful when she asked her social media followers to reveal if they’d voted for herself and former President Donald Trump.
While the question seemed like a set-up for a lecture, the 35-year-old Democratic Socialist who was re-elected last week insisted there was a reason for her curiosity and promised there would be no “judgment.”
“I’m LISTENING,” she wrote on the post. “People who support both Trump & me OR voted Trump/Dem, tell us why.”

“This is not a place of judgment. I’m not gonna like put your stuff on blast or anything like that or dunk on it… I actually want to learn from you,” Ocasio-Cortez said in the Instagram video.
Her followers obliged, sometimes surprising her with their responses as many noted what they saw as similarities between herself and the president-elect who won last week’s election in a landslide.
“I feel that you both are outsiders compared to the rest of DC, and less ‘establishment,’” one response read.
“It’s real simple, trump [sic] and you care for the working class,” another noted.
“Trump is going to get us the money and let’s [sic] men have a voice,” another response said.
In Ocasio-Cortez’s New York district, Trump came away with 33% of the vote, a stunning 11-point increase from his numbers in 2020.

“He had an actively presidential campaign here, that is one piece of it,” the congresswoman noted, comparing Trump’s campaign rallies in the Empire State to Vice President Kamala Harris’s focus on swing states.
Some of the social media users questioned Ocasio-Cortez’s method but she explained, “Sometimes you gotta dig in and see it to understand and adapt!” adding, “Even if it makes you want to barf.”

“Another area that I thought was really interesting was hearing a lot from undocumented people,” she said. “And more importantly, families of undocumented people who do vote saying that there’s been no relief from Democrats or anybody else on immigration path to citizenship for 10, 20, 30 years.”
“I don’t think a lot of undocumented people realize that Trump views them as criminals too,” she continued but added that “a lot of people don’t see it that way.”
Instagram users interacting with Ocasio-Cortez and her informal survey explained how Vice President Harris had been a disappointing Democrat nominee.
“She was more for rights then [sic] the economy & when she talked ab it she didn’t have a plan,” one noted.
“I know people that did [split their vote between Trump and the Dems] and it was bc of Gaza,” another wrote.
“Voted for trump and you, not genocide Harris. Dems need bernie!!” read one response.
