The toy manufacturing company, Mattel, put out a statement apologizing for mistakenly putting a web address of a pornographic website on packaging for the new “Wicked” dolls.
“Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the US, which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page,” Mattel told CNN over the weekend.
“We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children,” the statement continued.
Wicked is the smash Broadway play that came out in 2003. The show has been turned into a movie that will be released later this month, starring pop singer Ariana Grande and English singer and actress Cynthia Erivo.
Mattel advised parents who had already purchased the dolls to discard the packaging with the web address on it.
Part one of the Wicked movie will come out later this month and part two will come out in 2025.
