There are two immediate dopamine hits after winning an election. One is the winning mixed in with the meltdowns of the losers. The other is watching the losing side point fingers at who to blame and attempt to find the one excuse that explains away why their candidate lost other than the fact their candidate su-diddly-ucked. Within the gates of Kamalalot, they settled on two. The first is how racist and/or sexist Black and Latino voters are. The other is podcasts and how, unlike the Democrats, conservatives have their own media ecosystem.
No, seriously. That’s what they’re going with.
Get a load of this guy.
Van Jones comes closer to getting it. However, the irony of saying Democrats need their own media ecosystem while on CNN appears to have escaped him.
Yes, Trump and JD Vance working the podcast circuit was a key component in their victory: Theo Von, Full Send, Logan Paul, Andrew Schulz, Joe Rogan, Bussin’ with the Boys, etc. It was a strategy that apparently we owe to Barron Trump.
What the left and the media (but I repeat myself) are missing is not that conservatives have “built a separate ecosystem for themselves.” There is not much difference between Trump talking to Rogan and Full Send than there is between Kamala Harris talking to Stephen Colbert and The View. Other than the fact she’s an idiot and neither Colbert nor the shrill harpies from The View have any credibility with America.
It’s that those alternative media outlets allowed Trump and Vance to talk in length and effectively destroy the caricatures that legacy media created for them. You got to hear what they actually think and actually say. Not what legacy media and Big Tech take out of context.
What legacy media allows to be portrayed has always been a problem for the right. As resident oldhead here at LwC, I was around to remember Bob Dole running for president in 1996. Every time you saw him on TV, he looked like a grumpy, bitter, angry old man. The day after the election, he went on Dave Letterman and was funny and engaging, making you wonder where the hell this guy was during the campaign. Same with John McCain. You can literally watch the difference in real-time how the media portrayed him before he ran for president versus while he ran for president. Then again, after he ran for president.
The most damaging moment during the presidential race, and the beginning of the end for Harris-Walz, was the VP debate when people first got to see JD Vance in FULL context. It turns out he was not the “weird” person that the left and the media (but I repeat myself) created a narrative about. Then, that guy did podcasts and got to speak to a larger, apolitical audience.
It’s not that there is an “ecosystem” or a “manosphere.” It’s that Trump and Vance were allowed to speak without having legacy media outlets that despise them and were actively rooting for their opponents, talking over them and twisting their words. As it turns out when Americans are allowed to hear what conservatives REALLY think and REALLY have to say, they like it.
Go figure.
