Are you ready to see the best thing you’ll see today? With Donald Trump’s sweeping victory has come an avalanche of responses from left-wingers ranging from hilarious to deranged. If you’ve been watching MSNBC, you’ve seen the talking heads that continue to insist Kamala Harris ran a “flawless” campaign and that “racism and sexism” did her in.

Then there’s late-night television. Never has then been so many pompous, out-of-touch imbeciles congregated in one sector of the press. So with the race called, they went on the air Wednesday night, and total emotional collapses followed. Case in point? Jimmy Kimmel actually started crying. Remember, this is supposed to be a comedy show.
Former comedian Jimmy Kimmel offers tearful lecture after Trump’s big win. Clapter ensues.

KIMMEL: Let’s be honest, it was a terrible night last night. It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make this country go.
(Starts crying)
For healthcare, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech. It was a terrible night for poor people, for the middle-class, for seniors who rely on social security, for our allies in Ukraine.
(Starts crying again)
For NATO, (inadible), and democracy, and decency, and it was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him, and let’s be honest, it was a terrible night who voted for him too, you just don’t realize it yet.
I could go through that point by point and note how absurd almost everything he says is. These are people who live in an impebtrable bubble, to the point where they believe they the innate right to dictate who people vote for to “save democracy.” He’s essentially calling all the Hispanics and black men who voted for Trump in record numbers idiots because he doesn’t respect them. They are pawns to someone like Kimmel.

I want to focus on something else, though. Notice when he actually starts crying during that clip. It’s not when he talks about democracy, women, or decency. It’s when he mentions illegal immigration and Ukraine. What does that say about how out of touch these people are? While Kimmel was crying, he managed to illustrate to everyone exactly why the working class and minorities shifted towards Republicans in 2024. He just doesn’t realize it because he’s too addicted to his own farts.
Then there was Stephen Colbert.
Colbert, also despondent:
“The majority has spoken and they said they don’t care that much about democracy. And I want to take a moment to congratulate Kamala Harris & Tim Walz on running an amazing 107-day campaign.” pic.twitter.com/cIksZv1jUm

COLBERT: Well, ****. It happened, again. After a bizarre and vicious campaign fueled by the desperate need not to go to jail, Donald Trump has won the 2024 election.
Almost like you rehearsed that.
The deep shock and sense of loss is enormous…All day yesterday, I was walking around proudly wearing my “I voted sticker.” Today, I voted my “I am questioning my fundamental belief in the goodness of humanity sticker.” They give those out at the back sale, right outside.
Now, as a late-night host, people often say to me, “Come on, part of has got to want Trump to win because he gives you so much material to work with.” No, no one tells the guy who plays the bathroom, “Wow, you must love it when someone has explosive diarrhea. There’s so much material to work with.” You understand that? That good?
I wish, you wish, so many of us wished this hadn’t happened, but that is not for us to decide. This is a democracy. That’s democracy with a capital “duh,” and in this democracy, the majority has spoken, and they said they don’t care that much about democracy. And I want to take a moment to congratulate Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on running an amazing 107-day campaign. I mean come on, that was a shortner right out of the gate. They had it right out of the game. I hope they stay in touch, I know they’re really good at texting.

Colbert’s message there is simple: Americans are idiotic, uneducated rubes. That has been the chief message of the Democratic Party going back to the Barack Obama years. That penchant for tearing people down instead of understanding why they vote as they vote is why Kamala Harris lost. Someone with a liberal arts degree is not morally or intellectually superior to an HVAC repairman. Until Democrats grasp that, they will keep losing.
