Tammy Baldwin has won the Wisconsin Senate race.
Democrat incumbent Tammy Baldwin faced off against Republican Eric Hovde in the race for Wisconsin’s Senate seat.
Baldwin has held her Wisconsin Senate seat since 2013. She made history being The Badger State’s first openly homosexual member elected to the U.S. Senate.
According to her campaign website, so far during her time in Congress, she has “focused on strengthening the essential pillars of economic security for working families: investments in education and workforce readiness, building a strong Made in Wisconsin manufacturing and agriculture economy, quality health care for all Americans, and protecting the retirement security of today’s seniors and future generations.”
Baldwin served three terms as a State Representative for the 78th District in the Wisconsin State Assembly after being elected in 1992.
Baldwin also became the state’s first female member of Congress in 1998 when the 2nd Congressional District of Wisconsin broke the state’s “glass ceiling,” a term that feminists use to refer to a line of work that is mostly dominated by men. She was a member of the Judiciary, Budget, and Energy and Commerce committees during her seven tenure in the House of Representatives.
The Republican Challenger, Hovde, is a businessman and a philanthropist. He’s a Wisconsin-native with roots in real estate and banking.
His website reads, “I feel like the American Dream is slipping away. I was born at a time when our country was strong – economically, socially, and viewed with enormous respect internationally. Now, like many other Americans, I feel like I’m watching that great country diminish as the American Dream becomes further and further out of reach for too many of my fellow citizens. The economic path we’ve been on and the corruption that has been running rampant in Washington DC for the last 15 years, coupled with the disastrous last four years under Joe Biden’s administration… I don’t recognize my country anymore.”
His main points of interest revolve around tackling the rising cost of living, combating illegal immigration, creating stronger foreign policy, and an overhaul of the healthcare system.
In 1998, Eric and his brother Steve established the Hovde Foundation to sponsor research in the hopes of curing multiple sclerosis. But after an enlightening visit to Romania and Kosovo in the 1990s, they broadened their focus to enhancing the lives of children who are at risk by providing support to organizations that work to ensure the happiness, health, and readiness for a bright future of abandoned, enslaved, and sex-trafficked children.
“Tammy Baldwin has run a disgusting campaign built on lies. She has accomplished nothing as our Senator, and she’s wrong on every issue, from immigration to the economy. She has nothing positive to run on, so her entire campaign strategy is about making you hate Eric,” his website continued.
At the time of this reporting, Baldwin won with 48.6% of the vote compared to Hovde’s 48.5%
99% of the expected votes have been counted.
