Elissa Slotkin has won the Michigan Senate race.
Democrat Elissa Slotkin faced off against Republican challenger Mike Rogers in the race for Michigan’s Senate seat.
The duo fought to claim the Great Lake State’s first open Senate seat in a decade.
Slotkin has represented Michigan’s 7th congressional district since 2023. Prior to her Senate run, she was previously a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) analyst and an official with the Department of Defense (DoD).
Her website states, “Elissa has dedicated her life to serving our country and protecting our homeland – first in the CIA, where she served three tours in Iraq alongside the U.S. military, and later at the White House, State Department, and finally at the Pentagon.”
She accompanied the military on three tours in Iraq while working for the CIA, assisting our troops in their fight against terrorist militias.
Slotkin cites her “mother” as the reason she decided to run. In 2011, Slotkin’s mother passed away from ovarian cancer. Due to an early diagnosis of breast cancer, she struggled for years to pay for medical care, and the insurance companies allegedly exploited her for years due to her pre-existing condition. Slotkin claims that her family was completing all the necessary steps for her to file for bankruptcy in the same month that they learned of her mother’s fatal illness, and they were frantically working to secure her life-saving treatment.
Republican Mike Rogers, a former lieutenant in the United States Army, is endorsed by 45th President Donald Trump. He boasts his family’s four generations of military service to the United States.
Rogers is a former FBI agent who specialized in organized crime. Additionally, Rogers is endorsed by the group “Red Senate,” which defines themselves as an “organization solely dedicated to electing true conservatives to the United States Senate.”
Rogers fought to keep families safe and successful while serving as a state senator. In order to assist families in saving money for their children’s education, he drafted the legislation that established Michigan’s 529 College Savings Program.
Additionally, Rogers worked with law enforcement to acquire them the additional tools they needed to combat child predators and battled to minimize onerous rules that were hurting small companies.
Rogers entered the private sector in 2015 and established a company where he fervently supports the small businesses that he says are the foundation of our economy.
He has a strong interest in cyber security and works with businesses of all sizes to safeguard their data from foreign hackers and malicious nations like China.
Serving previously on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Rogers pushed to lower taxes and regulations for American small businesses and families in order to secure our country’s energy independence and unleash American-made energy.
“As the former Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, I understand the threats to America posed by terrorists and rogue regimes like Iran. If you are an Iranian-backed terrorist trained to do bad things, your goal is to not get caught. So it raises the question: how many other terrorists are included in the 1.7 million ‘gotaways’ who crossed our border during the Biden administration?” Rogers added.
At the time of this reporting, Slotkin won with 48.6% of the vote compared to Rogers’s 48.3%.
97% of the expected votes have been counted.
