Patrick Morrisey has won West Virginia’s Gubernatorial race.
Democrat Steve Williams faced off against Republican Patrick Morrisey in the race to be the next governor of West Virginia.
Williams has been the mayor of Huntington, West Virginia since 2012.
Williams boasts having a prosperous career in banking and finance by assisting individuals, corporations, and small enterprises in reaching their objectives. First responders were being laid off, essential services were being reduced, and the city’s credit rating was being decreased due to its financial difficulties.
“As Mayor, Steve took decisive action to overcome these challenges and in 2017 Huntington was selected the $3 million grand prize winner of the America’s Best Communities competition from among 350 cities nationwide,” his campaign website states.
The Democrat gubernatorial candidate says that he wants West Virginia families to be healthier, have safer neighborhoods, and better schools. Additionally, Williams expressed his desire for an economy that will offer the employment and opportunities necessary to “allow our kids to stay home and our families to stay together.”
The Republican in the race, Patrick Morrisey, has been the Attorney General of West Virginia since 2013.
During his time in office he has made fighting fraud, waste, abuse, and corruption a top priority.
From defending state jobs and precious energy resources to defending the Second Amendment, Morrisey has been one of the nation’s most active Attorneys General in the fight against federal overreach, bringing cases and amicus briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court and other courts.
Morrisey also assisted in the drafting and negotiation of significant pieces of legislation, such as the Bioterrorism and Public Health Preparedness Act of 2002 and the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, while serving as the House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee’s Deputy Staff Director and Chief Health Care Counsel from 1999 to 2004.
According to his website, he “instituted a new policy for hiring outside counsel that has dramatically increased transparency and saved the state more than $4 million. He also voluntarily returned approximately $18 million in monies to the state and has brought in many millions more to state agency clients and consumers.”
Morrisey was endorsed by 45th President Donald Trump back in May.
“Patrick has been a wonderful Attorney General, and will now be an incredible Governor who will fight tirelessly to stop Inflation, grow the Economy, restore Energy DOMINANCE, secure our Border, strengthen our Military/Vets, and protect and defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump said on Truth Social. “Now is the time for all Republicans to unite behind Patrick Morrisey to ensure he has a tremendous Victory in November!”
At the time of this reporting, Morrisey won with 58.9% of the vote compared to Williams’ 36.1%
17% of the vote has been counted.
