Need an Election Day time out?

Inevitably, whenever there has been what appears to be a turning point in the political winds over the past few years, someone clever produces a new take on the parody of the “Downfall” movie for the rest of us to enjoy. And on an especially challenging and uncertain day like Election Day, who can’t use some laughter, right?

If you’re not familiar with the hilarious, anonymously made videos, the original movie (2004’s Der Untergangwas a German historical drama about the final days of Adolf Hitler’s reign over the Third Reich. People who make the parodies replace the dialogue of all of the characters in one particularly tense scene, in which Hitler throws a fit over bad news imparted by his commanders.

In this latest version, X user The Hole Tweet sneaks in references to Elon Musk, the trend in the polling toward GOP nominee and former president, Donald Trump, the dependence of Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign on celebrity endorsements/appearances, P’Nut the Squirrel’s death, and more.

But the subordinates are forced to admit to the Hitler character that all that they’ve tried to do to thwart Trump during the election has been for naught, including “calling him a fascist and comparing him to you.” One commander bemoans the fact that “people want justice for Peanut (P’Nut).” That’s when the real fun begins, as Der Führer shakily removes his eyeglasses and orders out of the room everyone who took part in early voting for Trump.

The next two minutes of Hitler losing it are a total riot! Whether the parody is anything close to what’s really going on behind closed doors in Democrat circle is unknown… but it’s fun to imagine being a fly on the wall right about now.
