Josh Stein has won North Carolina’s Gubernatorial race.
GOP candidate Mark Robinson went head-to-head against Democrat challenger Josh Stein in the swing state’s race for governor.
Robinson is the current Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina. He assumed office in 2021, also serving as the president of the State Senate.
Additionally, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
“We don’t need another politician who is trying to climb the political ladder. We deserve to be represented by someone who knows us, has lived like us, and will serve the people of this state,” Robinson said.
The journey to election day has not been easy for the Lieutenant Governor.
Robinson faced calls to drop out of the race following an explosive article from CNN, accusing him of posting racially and sexually explicit posts on a porn site.
Robinson sued CNN for defamation saying the article was “politically motivated.” Despite him trying to move past the allegations Robinson lost many staffers and Donald Trump, who previously endorsed Robinson in the race, has steered clear from his campaign ever since.
Robinson’s issues centered around backing law enforcement, reducing violent crime, investing in education, easing inflation, supporting veterans and more.
Josh Stein is the current Attorney General. He assumed office in 2017.
He is a graduate of Harvard Law School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and Dartmouth College.
While serving as Attorney General, Stein touted his efforts to protect families.
“Stein has the experience and values to fight for what’s right, work to fix what’s wrong, and do right by every single North Carolinian,” his campaign website said. “Always putting the people first, Josh has consistently taken on powerful special interests to protect families and won.”
Other priorities Stein highlighted in his campaign included the economy, building a strong workforce, increasing access to healthcare, housing affordability, reproductive rights and more.
At the time of this reporting, Stein won with 58.8% of the vote compared to Robinson’s 37.3%
9% of the vote has been counted.
