In addition to the presidential and congressional races being disputed tonight, there are a number of state referenda on the ballot. Most of these are on expanded abortion. Florida is the largest state to have such an amendment on the ballot, and its failure has triggered the Regime Media.
MSNBC’s Joy Reid was quick to unload on the failure of Florida’s Amendment 4, and to levy a familiar smear against Governor Ron DeSantis:
JOY REID: Yeah, Ron Desantis has put everything on trying to ensure that Florida will buck the trend of every other state, including red states, that have passed the right to bodily autonomy. He’s put everything on it including, as you said, threats- whatever it takes to try to make sure that that amendment fails using the power of government that is, I would say, openly fascist and determinativ- and very determined.
A quick explainer: Florida law requires that ballot initiatives clear a 60% threshold before the state constitution can be amended. This happened after simple majority passage of an amendment mandating pregnant pigs be housed in enclosures of a certain minimum size (Tim Graham and I talk about it in the latest NewsBusters Podcast).
Florida’s Amendment 4, in addition to repealing the state’s heartbeat law, would have allowed for abortions to be performed by non-doctor medical personnel, blew the limit out from 6 weeks to some ambiguous nonspecific “viability”, and would have threatened parental notification. Planned Parenthood, George Soros, and super rich liberal donors spent over $100 million dollars to ensure passage of Amendment 4.
Governor Ron DeSantis acted in a manner consistent with his mandate, and marshaled resources as needed in order to fight disinformation as concerned this ballot initiative. But this is a bridge too far for the Regime Media, most of which appear to worship at the altar of Molech. Chief among them, Joy Reid who lambasted DeSantis as “fascist.”
The abortion lobby will no doubt pick itself up off the mat and try again. But much to the chagrin of the media, DeSantis will have left a blueprint in place. Cry harder.
