Elon Musk’s surprise visit on the Joe Rogan podcast just before election day was full of great conversation, but I think one of the best moments was when Rogan and Musk discussed the motivating power of a squirrel’s murder.

You’ve likely heard of P’Nut the squirrel, a social media star in New York who was rescued by a man named Mark Longo, after its mother was hit my a car. For seven years, Longo raised and cared for P’Nut until the state of New York sent law enforcement to burst into his home, steal the animals, and euthanize them. Longo and P’Nut’s fans were devastated by the government overreach. Moreover, the fact that New York utilized its taxpayer dollars to come down on a squirrel (and his adopted raccoon brother Fred) while the state is being rocked by real crime only caused more anger toward the government.
The viral story went nationwide, putting big government into a severely negative eye, which doesn’t bode well for Kamala Harris and the Democrats.
As Musk and Rogan talked, they came to the subject of P’Nut and how it caused a surge of support for Donald Trump.
“How can it be that we live in America, supposedly the land of the free, and the Government can barge into your home with guns, and take your pets and execute them,” said Musk. “If they can do that to your pets, what do you think they can do to you?”
Rogan asked why they would kill a cute little squirrel, and Musk brought up the fact that this was a mobilizing moment for many, bringing up the film John Wick.

“It was a beloved pet squirrel and raccoon too, and the Government barges into people’s house and kills them,” said Musk.
“This should get people out there mobilized, frankly,” he added. “You saw the John Wick movie…where he just wants peace.”
“Then they killed his dog, and it was a bad idea,” Musk said.
While the murder of P’Nut is tragic, the John Wick reference is apropos. For those who have never seen the movie, Keanu Reeves plays “John Wick,” a highly skilled assassin who got out of the business when he married a woman. His wife ended up dying of cancer, but before she died, she left him a puppy to help him with his loneliness. However, due to a chance encounter with a mobster’s son, the dog is murdered, sending Wick on a path of revenge that leaves the entire mob family dead.
“And they shouldn’t have killed that squirrel,” Rogan said after calling “John Wick” the greatest revenge movie of all time.

While we probably won’t know the fallout from P’Nut’s murder for some time, few should underestimate the power of a cute animal being murdered by government forces for ridiculous reasons.

While, in a perfect world, a solid economy and safe streets should be motivation enough, it’s small stories like this that actually reach people’s hearts. Part of the reason the “John Wick” movie carried so much weight with its premise is that the murder of an innocent puppy is enough to sentence an entire crime syndicate to death.
What we have here is something along those same lines with P’Nut, only the crime syndicate here is an overbearing, mismanaged, and incompetent New York State government. What it demonstrated is the power and danger of a government that’s too large for its own good… and that’s exactly what Harris and the Democrats represent.
Again, we won’t know the whole outcome until after election day, or if P’Nut the squirrel is actually brought up as a contributing factor by researchers, but I have a feeling it should be.
