Lisa Blunt Rochester has won the Delaware Senate race.
Democrat Lisa Blunt Rochester faced off against Republican Eric Hansen in the race for the Connecticut Senate seat.
Rochester has been a U.S. Representative for Delaware’s at-large congressional district since 2017. She is also a member of the House Commerce and Energy Committee.
Health care, the environment, trade and business, energy policy, telecommunications, manufacturing, and consumer protection are all under the committee’s vast purview.
Rochester’s own campaign website states that some of the top issues she intends to tackle are agriculture, climate, democracy and “voting rights,” education, gun violence prevention, “LGBTQIA+ Rights,” and reproductive freedom.
“As a widow, mother, grandmother, and public servant, Lisa knows the importance of providing economic security and greater opportunities for families. Lisa is running for the U.S. Senate to create good-paying jobs, protect our seniors, and secure our fundamental freedoms – from reproductive freedom to voting rights,” it continues.
Rochester is endorsed by notable Democrat officials like Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Nancy Pelsoi, and Hakeem Jeffries.
Meanwhile, the GOP’s Senatorial candidate, Eric Hansen, is “not a politician,” which he proudly boasts.
The Republican’s website states that his campaign is based on the mission statement: “Non Politician. Unifier. Results.”
Hansen’s career experience includes working as an executive for Walmart from 2005-2012. He has also worked at Procter & Gamble, a multinational consumer goods corporation, and Johnson & Johnson. In his college days, Hansen earned his master’s degree from Yale School of Management.
“We don’t need more politicians. We need people who care more about fixing the problems facing our country and state than getting elected, who care more about you than themselves and who will actually make things better,” his website states.
“I pledge to keep my residence in Delaware, not D.C. My family will stay in Delaware, and I commit to commuting back home to Delaware every week. In addition, I commit to attending or hosting at least 100 events or town halls in Delaware. At these events, we can have honest discussions and then I will work to solve the problems. It doesn’t matter what party you identify with – I want to hear from you,” it includes.
Hansen was not endorsed by 45th President Donald J. Trump.
His top priorities include: lowering the cost of living, creating an inflation tax credit that helps those on fixed incomes and tight budgets defray higher costs, reduce wasteful government spending so we can spend on programs that work for you, secure the border, legal immigration with strong vetting, ending violent crime, bringing in a federal task force to prosecute repeat violent criminals, and creating a path back to the community for non-violent criminals.
“Trust in government is at an all-time low, and for good reason. We have had one-party rule in Delaware since 2008. The establishment and career politicians are simply too entrenched. As a result, Delaware is ranked 48th out of 50 for government integrity, transparency, and accountability. Too often the government tries to tell you what to do and how to think. We must have smart government reform to drive accountability and efficiency. I will restore faith in our government through transparency and expanded federal agency disclosures – less secrets,” Hansen added.
At the time of this reporting, Lisa Blunt Rochester won with 56.3% of the vote compared to Hansen’s 40.1%.
59% of the vote has been counted.
