Matt Meyer has won the Delaware Gubernatorial race.

Democrat gubernatorial candidate Matt Meyer faced off against Republican Mike Ramone.

Since 2017, Democrat gubernatorial candidate Matt Meyer, a small business owner and former public school math teacher, has been the New Castle County Executive.

Matt is “running for governor to bring that same result-driven leadership across our state by creating an effective government that reflects our values and priorities,” his website states.

Meyer previously relocated to Nairobi, Kenya, where he studied Swahili and founded Ecosandals, a recycled footwear business that distributed eco-friendly shoes across five continents and 17 nations.

Additionally, Matt then served as a diplomat embedded with the U.S. Army in Mosul, Iraq, for 12 months during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.

He notes that his top priorities are a “Greener NCC,” citing sustainability, “Safer Communities,” and “Smarter Governance.”

Meyer claims that he will “fix our state’s broken and underfunded education system so every student can get a world-class education and every teacher can thrive, expand access to affordable housing and lower the cost of living so working families can finally get ahead, improve the quality, affordability, and accessibility of our healthcare system by reducing wait times and limiting costs, enshrine reproductive care in the state’s constitution, ensure an inclusive state and governance for the LGBTQ+ community, fight for a cleaner, greener Delaware through green jobs and infrastructure…” his website continues.

Republican Mike Ramone is a businessman, entrepreneur, and civic leader.

He has been a state representative for 16 years in both the Newark and Pike Creek area. Ramone maintains that 32 years of inaction by Dover officials have contributed to stagnant growth, deteriorating schools, and a declining economy.

Ramone plans to demonstrate leadership skills to turn Delaware around and usher in a new period of growth, wealth, and opportunity for Delawareans.

More than 200 Delawareans are employed by Mike and his family’s six prosperous enterprises spread around the state.

He has happily served in the Delaware House of Representatives for 16 years, having been elected in 2008. He has been an advocate for Delaware in the House of Representatives, working to lower taxes for hardworking Delawareans, support good governance, and boost funding for schools and classrooms.

His website states, “Families throughout Delaware have been impacted by rising crime rates and rampant drug use. As Governor, Mike will ensure state police and local law enforcement have the tools and resources necessary to keep our communities safe.”

Living in a strongly Democrat state, which has provided double-digit wins to Democrats since 2008, Ramone prides himself in backing historic and proactive measures in the General Assembly to safeguard women’s reproductive health access throughout his legislative tenure.

Ramone highlights the bipartisan role he provided to the development of this significant piece of legislation.

Ramone promises that he will “protect women’s reproductive rights” and he guarantees that Delaware women will have access to high-quality, safe healthcare in his capacity as governor.

The political topics that peek Ramone’s interest include “empowering Delaware students, protecting women’s reproductive rights, defending LGBTQ+ rights, supporting main street, promoting good governance, keeping communities safe, expanding veterans’ benefits, protecting the environment, improving healthcare, and investing in our infrastructure.”

At the time of this reporting, Meyer won with 56.2% of the vote compared to Ramone’s 43.8%

83% of the vote has been counted.
