Imagine you were an alien who just landed on Earth and flipped on the news to learn about American politics. Then you see Donald Trump riding in a garbage truck, Kamala Harris sounding like an AI speech generator, and Joe Biden biting babies. It’s been a wild one, and it’s not over yet.

With just days left to go before the polls close for the final time, Kamala Harris is losing, and that means it’s time for one last, desperate pivot to save her campaign. After her campaign has repeatedly suggested her political opponents are akin to Adolf Hitler, she wants people to know she’s actually a great unifier who will listen to those who disagree with her.

HARRIS: As your president, I pledge to seek common ground and common sense solutions to the challenges you face. I am not looking to score political points. I am looking to make progress, and I pledge to you, I will listen to experts, I will listen to those impacted by decisions I make, and to people who disagree with me.

Alright, we’re fighting, hey everybody, okay. You know, this is the the thing because we’re actually fighting for our democracy, and unlike Donald Trump, I don’t believe people who disagree with me are the enemy. He wants to put them in jail, I’ll give them a seat at the table.

One of the best parts of that clip is that people start heckling her during her big applause line. The crowd then starts groaning and booing, leaving her to pretend they are actually cheering for what she said. Everything about her is so contrived, and it just oozes from every word and mannerism.

Harris has a record. She has a record of comparing those who disagree with her to fascists and claiming they are an existential threat to democracy. She has a record of attempting to jail her political opponents. She has a record of trying to score political points at the expense of vulnerable Americans. She is not looking to “make progress.” She’s looking to continue the prior four years of failed policies. 

There’s no great mystery here, and that’s why this doesn’t play to anyone but the ‘Morning Joe’ crowd on MSNBC. As a general rule, whatever gets Joe Scarborough all hot and bothered is probably repulsive to the average American. People don’t want platitudes. They want the government to stop making their lives more difficult and to run with some semblance of efficiency. All Harris has to offer is the former, and it’s pathetic to see her attempt to flip the script this late in the game. 

No one is buying this stuff, and it’s simply too late to change the narrative. You can’t go from comparing your opponents to the Third Reich on the Washington Mall earlier in the week to preaching unity a day later. All that does is make her look even more inauthentic and fake.
