Virginia GOP Attorney General Jason Miyares says that part of the reason Hispanics are identifying more with Republicans is because the left has become out of touch in terms of culture, socialism and tradition.
A recent poll conducted late last month showed that GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump is leading with support from Hispanic voters 52% to 40% support from Vice President Kamala Harris.
“As the Democratic party gets dominated by far left academics, then it is driving…I think so many Latino voters are away,” Miyares said on the John Solomon Reports podcast. “I mean [look at] terms like Latinx. I like to say anybody who uses the term Latinx has never actually spent one day in a Latino community.”
The dictionary defines “Latinx” as a gender-neutral term or a “nonbinary” alternative to Latino or Latina.
“In Spanish, everything is gendered,” he said. “So you do Latino or Latina. End of story. You can’t speak Spanish without gendering.”
He later added that the term “Latinx” would work in a Harvard faculty lounge, but not in a Hispanic community.
Miyares said that many Latinos have fled countries with socialist governments and they don’t want that kind of government structure in the U.S.
“A large number of Latinos have fled and lived under the horrors of socialism,” he stated. So the people most against socialism are the people that have actually experienced and seen it…..whether it’s Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela or even Colombians who are right next door.”
Miyares is Virginia’s first Latino attorney general and while he was on the campaign trail, he shared the story about how his mother fled Cuba in 1965 and later became a U.S. citizen.
He said that Latino communities are also very family oriented and the far-left transgender ideology doesn’t resonate with a lot of the community.
“Some of its cultural,” Miyares said. “A lot of it is……I saw bumper stickers the other day that said, ‘Make groceries affordable again.’ They realized under Biden and Harris, it’s harder to live.”
