New York Jets Quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Friday appeared to poke fun at the trend of celebrities endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, and voters who could be swayed by the surge in support.
Rodgers, who played most of his career with the Green Bay Packers, has been a vocal critic of the Democratic Party, and supported former Independent presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s bid for the White House. Kennedy has since suspended his campaign and endorsed former President Donald Trump.
The comment occurred during an appearance on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show,” where Rodgers and McAfee also referred to Election Day next week as the “trade deadline,” because it is the deadline for teams hoping to trade players.
“If you don’t know what to do on trade deadline, just ask your favorite celebrity,” Rodgers said. “My favorite is when the celebrity is bought and paid for by China.”
The remark comes after multiple prominent celebrities endorsed Harris this week, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, LeBron James, and the cast of the Avengers. Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Jennifer Lopez have also supported Harris this year.
“We’re back. Let’s #AssembleForDemocracy. In the #ElectionEndgame, every vote counts 🗳️ #VoteBlue! Vote Kamala Harris [and] Tim Walz,” Avengers star Mark Ruffalo posted in a thread on X on the group’s behalf. “Don’t sit this one out. It’s the one where we will lose big: Project 2025, women’s reproductive rights, climate change, LGBTQIA+ rights, public education, student debt relief, Affordable Care Act, Social Security, and as of today, life saving vaccines.”
