Packaging projection, Russian collusion, and fearmongering over free speech absolutism, a Senate socialist introduced a new theory about Elon Musk.

From President Joe Biden to Vice President Kamala Harris, the American people have seen the Democratic Party readily swap out empty suits, advancing the agenda of backroom dealmakers. Now, after the Wall Street Journal introduced allegations about Musk communicating with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders wondered at the world’s richest man’s sway over former President Donald Trump.

“No, I don’t think it’s appropriate,” Sanders told NBC News’ Kirsten Welker on “Meet the Press” when asked about the Journal report that claimed Musk and Putin have had conversations on “personal topics, business, and geopolitical tensions,” since 2022.

“Look, Musk is a very smart, aggressive guy. He is the wealthiest person in the world, and what really interests me is — if, God forbid, Trump would win — whether it would be Elon Musk running the government and Trump working for him, or the other way around,” added the senator.

“But the idea that you have somebody like Musk, who has massive amounts of federal contracts, campaigning hard, putting huge amounts of money into Trump’s campaign — man, if there’s ever been a conflict of interest, that’s it,” Sanders alleged further.

Much like previous allegations via Watergate reporter Bob Woodward that Trump himself had been in continued contact with Putin “maybe as many as seven” times after his presidency, the claims against the SpaceX CEO ran contrary to Musk’s public behavior which included aiding Ukraine with Starlink deployment and openly challenging the Russian president “to single combat” shortly after the war in Eastern Europe had commenced.

In his own reaction to the article, the billionaire, who’d previously noted his companies “have done more to undermine Russia than anything,” posted on X, “Everyone knows that [The New York Times] is a left wing propaganda machine. Less obvious, is that the WSJ is controlled by the (left wing) journalists union, not Rupert Murdoch! Same is true of almost all legacy news organizations.”

Similarly, as Musk campaigned on behalf of the GOP leader, promoting anticipated involvement in a Trump-Vance administration toward reigning in government inefficiency, he acknowledged, “I do have a top-secret clearance, but, I’d have to say, like most of the stuff that I’m aware of… the reason they keep it top secret is because it’s so boring,” the campaign weighed in on the Journal’s report.

Trump campaign National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, “Elon Musk is a once-in-a-generation industry leader, and our broken federal bureaucracy could certainly benefit from his ideas and efficiency. As for Putin, there’s only one candidate in the race that he did not invade another country under, and it’s President Trump.”

“President Trump has long said that he will re-establish his peace through strength foreign policy to deter Russia’s aggression and end the war in Ukraine,” she added.
