A group of at least 6 advisors to former President Donald Trump are apparently circulating a memo that proposes that he allow the issuance of security clearances to his appointees without the normal FBI background check process if is elected to a second term, the New York Times reported on Sunday.
The advisors behind the memo reportedly include Boris Epshteyn, a legal adviser to Trump who is involved in his 2024 campaign, according to three sources.
Under the proposal, private-sector investigators would conduct the background checks potential appointees, the sources said.
The report does not indicate whether Trump has reviewed the proposal and taken a position on the issue.
