Vice President Kamala Harris’ “joy” campaign lacked one key element according to CNN’s Van Jones who argued President Donald Trump “is beating the pants off of us.”

Even before the launch of his 2016 White House bid, the businessman turned politician’s resumé of productions prominently featured his knack for delivering ratings. Now, as HBO’s Bill Maher and Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) agreed, Jones argued Trump’s recent campaign decisions were leaving Harris in the dust while she lacked “fun.”

During the Overtime segment of the most recent installment of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the commentator and special adviser for green jobs to then-President Barack Obama was in accord with the host and governor that the vice president had erred by not yet agreeing to do “The Joe Rogan Experience” like her GOP rival.

Furthermore, they agreed that Trump’s shift at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s was “brilliant,” as Jones put it. “I think it’s brilliant.”

“When you have somebody who is a world famous superstar, who’s a billionaire, etc., etc., and they do something you don’t expect, it’s brilliant media,” he went on.

“And I think we’ve got to acknowledge that this guy is beating the pants off of us with these so-called publicity stunts. It gets into everybody’s feeds and people who are not looking at politics will look at that,” the CNN analyst said as Trump circumvented corporate media’s slipping hold on narratives by appearing on podcasts with direct appeal to a wide array of audiences.

“If we have more fun, if the Democratic Party is a party of fun, people will join it. We should be doing crazy stuff, too,” continued Jones.

The Harris campaign’s idea of fun included her recent rally in Houston, Texas where hometown hero Beyoncé was trotted out for an endorsement. But, when the 32-time Grammy Award-winning artist merely spoke instead of performing for the crowd at Shell Energy Stadium, the vice president was left embarrassed centerstage as jeers rained down from the crowd of slighted attendees.

Maintaining agreement with Jones on what the vice president would need to do differently to spark voter interest as Rogan himself left the door open for her to sit down for a conversation, Maher added of Trump’s successes, “Don’t immediately just go to, ‘I hate him for that.’…but everybody I know here in Hollywood does that…you look weak.”

“I think politics comes out of personality,” he went on while claiming conservatives were “squares.”

Acknowledging that he didn’t get the appeal of Trump, the host also said he didn’t understand Taylor Swift, prompting Polis to harken back to an earlier suggestion that the host would have bumped the governor for the vice president.

“You would have bumped me for Taylor Swift, too,” said Polis as Maher admitted, “I’d bump Kamala for Taylor Swift.”

As of Sunday, the RealClearPolitics national polling average showed Harris’ celebrity endorsements and claims of “joy” while likening Trump to Adolf Hitler had stopped the GOP leader from surpassing her by the slimmest margin, outperforming his polling on the same date in 2016 and 2020 where he’d been behind by 5.6% and 7.4% to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and then-former Vice President Joe Biden respectively.
