A 15-year-old boy from Washington State who killed nearly his entire family tried to blame his 13-year-old brother for his cold actions.

Flashback to early Monday morning around 5:00 am, when the 15-year-old boy called 911 claiming his younger brother “just shot my whole family and committed suicide too,” as reported by CBS News.

The boy might have been able to get away with it if it hadn’t been for his 11-year-old sister, who, after surviving the mass shooting, ran to a neighbor’s house. The neighbor then called 911.

“[The] neighbor said the suspect’s 11-year-old sister had run to his house and was bleeding from what appeared to be a gunshot wound,” CBS News noted.

Speaking with 911 herself, the sister identified her 15-year-old brother as the gunman and said he shot her too but that she got away by holding her breath, playing dead, and eventually sneaking out a window.

Following the 911 report, deputies arrived at the 15-year-old boy’s home, where they took him into custody and found five bodies, including those of parents Mark Humiston, 43, and Sarah Humiston, 42.

Speaking with detectives later that day, the previously mentioned sister identified the gun used in the shooting as “her father’s silver Glock handgun,” according to court documents reviewed by CBS News.

She further revealed that her father had kept it in a small lockbox that “he would sometimes put by the front door so he could bring it to work.”

More importantly, she confirmed to the police that her 15-year-old brother was “the only one who knew the combination to the Glock lockbox,” presumably aside from their father.

With all this evidence in hand, detectives determined that the boy had “systematically murdered” nearly his entire family, including three siblings, and “then staged the scene prior to the arrival of first responders to make it appear” that his surviving brother was the culprit.

The 15-year-old is now being held at a juvenile facility and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon. A judge will reportedly determine whether to leave him in the juvenile system or upgrade him to adult court, not that it would make that much of a difference.

“Prosecutors … noted that moving the case to adult court does not necessarily mean the suspect would be tried as an adult because, under Washington state law, sentencing guidelines are different for juveniles even if they are tried in adult court,” as noted by CBS News.

According to people who knew the family, everything had seemed perfect from the outside looking in.

“Dad worked so hard and mom was the most dedicated, loyal mother you could ask for,” Rhea Robertson, a soccer coach who’d mentored one of the children, told Seattle station KOMO. “You thought they were perfect. From the outside, they looked perfect to me.”‘

“They were very strong Christians,” neighbor Camille Sharp added. “They loved God. You could tell. They are just like a beautiful family, beautiful kids, walked with their kids every day, homeschooled their kids.”

“We used to see them riding their bikes around the neighborhood,” another neighbor told the Daily Mail. “They were a nice family. We never noticed anything wrong or unusual. It’s a real tragedy.”

Speaking with the Daily Mail, however, an extended family member revealed that there had been problems internally because of the parents being “ultra-religious,” forcing a strict schedule on their kids, and having super “high expectations.”

“The source described how the family maintained a small tight-knit circle and had caused some bad feeling in the community over the summer after ordering their eldest sons to stay away from the children of LGBTQ families living nearby,” according to the Daily Mail.

“It caused some disquiet,” the source said in their own words. “Mark found out that the boys had made friends with those kids and insisted they didn’t see them again. Everyone was quite upset about it.”
