Trump vows to protect persecuted Christians, slams Harris for not helping

On Thursday night, Trump posted this on Truth Social.

There are hundreds of millions of Christians facing persecution overseas, but literally NO ONE in power seems to care and few are talking about it.

On the presidential stage in the U.S., Donald Trump is the lone voice who is willing to say that he will stand up for Christians.

Trump is referring to a regional dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan that has been brewing, ebbing and flowing, for decades, but has intensified since Biden-Harris took office.

The humanitarian crisis worsened in 2022 when Azerbaijan imposed a blockade on the Lachin Corridor, the only route connecting Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia. This blockade restricted the flow of essential supplies, including food, medicine, and fuel, to the Armenian population in the region. International observers condemned Azerbaijan’s actions as an attempt to forcibly displace the Armenians from their homeland. As of recent estimates, over 100,000 Armenians have fled Artsakh.

The Ottoman Empire committed genocide against the Armenian people during WW1. Up to 1.5 million Armenians were slaughtered in the eastern regions of modern-day Turkey:

Armenia, which has been largely Christian since the 4th-century A.D. (and was the first official Christian state), has some of the oldest churches in the world. It is bordered the Christian state of Georgia (with Russia to the north of that) and the Islamic countries of Turkey, Iran, and Azerbaijan (which is 97% Muslim).

In 2023, Azerbaijani forces installed a checkpoint on the road that connected Armenian communities inside Azerbaijan to Armenia proper in an apparent effort to isolate and destroy those communities:

Despite calls for action, critics argue that the Biden-Harris administration did not do enough to alleviate the situation. Trump’s recent comments echo broader dissatisfaction among certain groups regarding U.S. involvement. Aram Hamparian, Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), remarked, ‘Kamala Harris did NOTHING as 120,000 Armenian Christians were horrifically persecuted and forcibly displaced in Artsakh.’

If you ask Trump, this is just one more example of the failed Biden-Harris foreign policy. And it doesn’t escape Trump’s knowledge that Christians are being targeted specifically.

Trump’s VP nominee JD Vance made this much clear.
