An attempt at a correction resulted in a rather creative translation from The Atlantic, which is accused of publishing “pure fiction.”
Mark Meadows spokesman Ben Williamson contacted The Atlantic in regards to a recently published piece titled: “Trump: ‘I Need the Kind of Generals That Hitler Had.’” Among the many allegations against former President Donald Trump was the claim that he reneged on a promise to help pay for the funeral of 20-year-old Army Private Vanessa Guillén. The young woman had been bludgeoned to death by a fellow soldier, and her body was burned and buried near Fort Hood.
The piece claims Trump was shocked to receive a $60,000 bill for the funeral costs, at which time he allegedly ordered Meadows not to pay it. Williamson sent a statement to The Atlantic denying that Trump ever said any of the things he was reportedly quoted as saying in the piece, including referring to Guillén as a “f**king Mexican.”
In editing the piece, however, Williamson’s statement was more or less completely glossed over.
On the left: I sent Atlantic a comment saying President Trump “absolutely did not say that,” referring to the alleged comments about Ms. Guillen they printed.
On the right: Atlantic translated that comment to “didn’t hear Trump say it.”
Treat this dishonest piece accordingly. pic.twitter.com/pM1o1c9fEm

“[Trump spokesman Alex] Pfeiffer told me that he did not write that statement, and emailed me a series of denials. Regarding Trump’s ‘fucking Mexican’ comment, Pfeiffer wrote: ‘President Donald Trump never said that. This is an outrageous lie from The Atlantic two weeks before the election.’ He provided statements from Patel and a spokesman for Meadows, who denied having heard Trump make the statement. Via Pfeiffer, Meadows’s spokesman also denied that Trump had ordered Meadows not to pay for the funeral,” the updated piece reads.
Guillén’s sister, Mayra Guillén, responded to The Atlantic piece and hit them for politicizing the death of someone she loved dearly.
Wow.
I don’t appreciate how you are exploiting my sister’s death for politics- hurtful & disrespectful to the important changes she made for service members. President Donald Trump did nothing but show respect to my family & Vanessa. In fact, I voted for President Trump today. https://t.co/o8cDrKOKBV— Mayra Guillen (@mguilen_) October 22, 2024
My sisters death was never to be politicized. Unbelievable.

The family’s attorney Natalie Khawam also whacked the outlet and writer Jeffrey Goldberg.
“After having dealt with hundreds of reporters in my legal career, this is unfortunately the first time I have to go on record and call out Jeffrey Goldberg@the Atlantic: not only did he misrepresent our conversation but he outright LIED in HIS sensational story,” she posted on X. “More importantly, he used and exploited my clients, and Vanessa Guillen’s murder… for cheap political gain. I would like to also point out that the timing of this ‘story’ is quite suspicious, as this supposed conversation that Trump had would have occurred over 4 years ago!”
“Why a story about it now?! As everyone knows, not only did Trump support our military, he also invited my clients to the Oval Office and supported the I Am Vanessa Guillen bill too,” she continued. “I’m grateful we were successful in getting bipartisan support of the I Am Vanessa Guillen Act, and because of everyone’s hard work and efforts our service members now have more protections and rights while serving our country.”

X users were also less than pleased by the lack-luster attempt at journalism:
What despicable liars they are
— Christina Pushaw (@ChristinaPushaw) October 22, 2024
Pure fiction by Jeffrey Goldberg – who lied to America to help drag us into the disastrous Iraq War.
Denials from all involved. Including the family of the fallen soldier – which Goldberg refused to include.
However much you hate the media it’s not nearly enough.

Good Lord. The Atlantic is a freaking hack of an outlet. Using a fallen soldier like this is disgraceful.

Another source for the article @RickHunter7
The more Trump increases his lead in the polls the closer to the election, the more insane the screams from the Far Left media will become. I wouldn’t be surprised if another assassination attempt occurs since 31% of Democrats…

No worries. We’ve known the Atlantic is hot garbage for years. The only people who still read it are locked-in Kamala voters, and thinking isn’t their strong suit.

I want to print the piece and use it as toilet paper.
