According to Bernalillo County deputies, an alleged intruder broke into a New Mexico home early Tuesday morning.

It was too bad for the intruder; he picked the wrong house: the homeowner was armed.

Deputies told KOB-TV they responded to a call about a break-in at a home near Lost Horizon Drive in West Mesa around 3:45 a.m. The homeowner had reportedly shot the intruder, and when deputies arrived, they found the suspect critically injured. Deputies tried life-saving measures before medics brought the suspect to UNM Hospital, where the suspect later died.

BCSO violent crimes and homicide detectives are now investigating the incident. It’ll be interesting to see if or how they turn this around on the armed homeowner.
