Vice President Kamala Harris received a birthday message from her in-laws that set off cringe-meters on social media.
Doug Emhoff’s mother and father relayed a video message to the Democrat nominee, regaling her with a poem celebrating her 60th birthday called “Sixty Stars for Kamala.”
“Hi everyone. We’re Mike and Barb Emhoff, the parents of the second gentleman and we’re here today to honor our daughter-in-law Kamala Harris on her birthday,” Emhoff’s father says at the start of the message he shared online.
“Ane we’ve written a beautiful poem,” he added.

“Sixty years of laughter, sixty years of grace, a guiding light with a smiling face,” Barbara Emhoff began the poem.
“From courtroom halls to Senate floors, a voice of justice forever endures,” she continued.
“With every step you’ve shown your might, inspiring hope, turning wrongs to right,” her husband took over. “Heartbeat strong through every trial, carving paths with courage and style. ”
“For each candle’s glow, a wish so bright for all the lives you’ve helped ignite,” Harris’s mother-in-law jumped back in.”Here’s to sixty more dreams so grand, with love and warmth held in your hand.”
They signed off their happy birthday message from “your loving in-laws, Mike and Barb.”
“May joy never part. You lead with your head and give with your heart. We love you!” they concluded.
The message and the poem were panned on X where many users mocked the “scripted” and cringe-y message.
You sent the teleprompter to your parents house? Really?

I don’t post a video to wish my children or their spouses a happy birthday. I call them if they’re not near me. And if I talked like that on the phone, they would be worried about me

It is nice that they want to help. But I don’t understand for whom this message is. Is it for Kamala or is it for the voters – they switch the addressee during the clip. It doesn’t feel “real” this way. And why is this huge monitor pic of Kamala in the center and they are cut off…

I know my in-law’s names.
Does Kamala not know hers?
